Come along with us to Roadfest

Beginning June 17, Electric Route 66 will be hitting the road, and posting our experiences for the next 2 weeks.
 
We've been invited to exhibit The Blue Spirit as part of the AAA Route 66 Roadfest in Tulsa, Oklahoma, and we will be documenting our journey online - on Facebook, YouTube and Instagram. Cell phone signal permitting, we'll be posting photos from the road, and live or almost-live videos of many of the places we stop along the way. Our path will pick up Route 66 in Kingman, Arizona, and follow it east all the way to Tulsa, and beyond.
 
We will be triple-representing on this trip: for Electric Route 66, as ambassadors for the Route 66 Electric Vehicle Association, and also supporting the California Historic Route 66 Association. We'll have a combo CHR66A/Route 66 EVA table at the Route 66 Roadfest in the Route 66 Community area, in addition to our car 'The Blue Spirit' being on display in the Future of Mobility exhibit of the festival.
 
The AAA Route 66 Roadfest in Tulsa is taking place June 23-25. We hope to see you there, or somewhere along the way! We'll be traveling the Route from June 17 all the way until July 2. Keep an eye out for The Blue Spirit as we explore the mainline and back roads of Route 66.

On Facebook, look for our posts in the public groups Historic Route 66 and Route 66 World, as well as the private group for the Route 66 EVA - feel free to join! We'll also post to the California Historic Route 66 Association group during the show.
On Instagram, we expect to post on both the Electric Route 66 account and the new Route 66 EVA account.

It's going to be a busy couple of weeks!

Road Closure info: Route 66 in California

As many Route 66 travelers will know, there has been a long-term closure of a section of Route 66 in the eastern Mojave Desert in California. Due to the abundance of questions about this area on Route 66 Facebook groups, I decided to write up a summary of what is signed for travelers on the affected roads. Our October trip to the Road Runner's Retreat provided the opportunity to photograph all of the road signs that have been placed to deter travelers from the closed area. Two segments of Route 66 between Needles and Amboy have been closed for a couple of years, and there is no timetable for reopening. Many bridges were washed out in flood conditions and San Bernardino County has not finished repairing them all, as they are an enormous county without a lot of funds. After having a chance to photograph all of the signs, the source of travelers' confusion becomes clear: the signs are a jumble of contradictory and often wrong information. Utah back roads weekend

In an effort to get out of the Vegas heat once more, we took another short weekend trip at the end of August. We did our best to avoid the interstate and did a short loop around the back roads of southwestern Utah. I hope you enjoy our photos of some of the sights. Amazing views abound in southwest Utah Day 1: Las Vegas to Cedar City Our two-lane route on Day 1: from I-15 exit 112 to Cedar City   For the first 75 miles of our journey from home in Las Vegas, using Interstate 15 is unavoidable as there is no other through road. We left home in The Blue Spirit with a full charge, which showed as 284 miles on our car. (This is just an estimate. I'm working on resetting the estimate back closer to the car's original EPA range of 310 miles, but this process of recalibration can take a long time in a Model 3.) Join us at DEED and the Fun Run in April and May

It's been pretty quiet here at Electric Route 66, but coming up soon are two (count 'em!) events that will likely be just the beginning of a very busy road-tripping season. If you are in the vicinity of Kingman, Arizona, we'd love to see there!     Drive Electric Earth Day On April 29, Kingman will be hosting their second Drive Electric Earth Day event at the Powerhouse Visitor Center. Hosted by the Historic Electric Vehicle Foundation , EV owners will bring their cars for display, and to answer questions from the public about owning and driving electric. It looks like it will be a small gathering this year, but the Powerhouse is a busy place: in addition to the Arizona Route 66 Museum, visitor information and gift shops, the Route 66 EV Museum will be open to all for free.   The Powerhouse Visitor Center is Kingman's biggest Route 66 attraction.
